Big Day Mix 06

by topofthestairs @ 30 Jul. 2006 - 12:59:46

So I mixed a CD for my girlfriend to listen to on Saturday [5th August] morning as she gets ready to meet me at the Registry Office for our Big Day! We are spending Friday night apart and I won't actually see her until the ceremony itself, which is kind of exciting so I have mixed this CD with tracks to uplift her, calm her and make her laugh:

I Am Thin and Gorgeous/Joanne Lumley & Jennifer Saunders
Beautiful Child/Rufu Wainwright
Lovely Day/Bill Withers
God Only Knows/Beach Boys
Feeling Good/Nina Simone
Sweet Love/Fierce
Better Day/Charlotte Church
Summertime/DJ Jazzy Jeff
Golden/Jill Scott
Don't You worry 'Bout A Thing/Stevie Wonder
Get The Party Started/Pink
Hayling/FC Kahuna
Little Bit Of Lovin'/Kele Le Roc
We'll Be Together/Sting
Distractions/Zero 7

Now not Too Hot

by topofthestairs @ 28 Jul. 2006 - 15:00:27

Damn! All my wimpering yesterday about how I felt and I missed the fact that it was my 100th blog. Oh well - have to make sure I don't miss my next blog anniversary which will be next Friday. This is the date I started my blog a year ago!

I am feeling much, much better today but staying out of the gym and the sun.

Todays playlist has been on 365 Radio/King of Swing and is now jazz on KMHD/USA through ipod. It's doing the job.

Shouting 'I'm Hot'

by topofthestairs @ 27 Jul. 2006 - 15:30:26

I like hot weather and up until today I was OK. Today I woke with a headache I have not been able to shift. During the afternoon I felt a little dizzy and then I felt a little sick. Unusual for me but I am really feeling it today. Haven't got through much work because I can't concentrating - AM I ON MY OWN HERE?

Mind you I have been on the go contstantly for well over 2 weeks now as the wedding gets nearer. Am planning to wind down mid afternoons next week in an effort to not arrive at the registry office looking like I have done a full weeks shopping in the bags which are currently residing under my eyes.

Have a neat job tomorrow whilst my girlfriend is out bonding with her 'best person'. We are not seeing each on the day until we get to the reg office so I am compiling a 'feel good' CD for her to play whilst she's getting ready.

Will post the playlist tomorrow.

Keep cool chums xx

Judie Tzuke

Am AT LAST ploughing through my humungous CD collection and chucking out the one that I bought just for one or two tracks [i.e. Wanted John Miles MUSIC so bought the whole album - MUSIC was the best track, all others were pretty dire]. So far got rid of about 50 CD's and crammed my ipod with the tracks I want - now total over 1,000.

Popped Judie Tzukes 1979 album Welcome To the Cruise in the CD player thinking I would only keep Stay With Me Till Dawn and possibly Sukarita. I had forgotten just how brilliant this album is. The title track, These Are The Laws .. all fab.
Looked on the web and she has lots of sites and is still performing and writing songs for Alex Parks.

It just great when a 27 years old CD stands up today - in my book, it's what it's all about!

Been Away - Now I'm Back

by topofthestairs @ 21 Jul. 2006 - 12:24:42

Been away in Harrogate [lovely] doing a Trade Show so been away from my lovely home environment and bereft of any music. Did listen to the Little Willies new CD driving up which is the band Norah Jones is in. It was OKish, a little bland in places so you do start zoning out.
Trade Show life is all about getting up early, 9am till 6pm on the stand then a meal and bed! The show was a little slow and so did get a blissful chance to read through a back log of 5 issues of Mojo!

2 weeks tomorrow till my Civil Ceremony and I do now have little squeals of excitement leaping forth from time to time. there is a lot of music littered around our day but can't go into too much details in case my girlfriend reads my blog, but will fill in the details after August 5th. Only thing we can't seem to sort out is an appropriate cake topping, all the ones on offer are very naff - guess an idea will pop up soon.

Have missed my blog mates and am now back to regular blogging.

Keep cool and happy!

Aggghhhhhh!!!!

by topofthestairs @ 10 Jul. 2006 - 09:25:27

My girlfriend is holding a 'soiree' the night before our wedding and I happily volunteered to sort some music out for her. Did this yesterday - started at about 10.30am and finished about 10pm.

Had this great idea that I would extract CD tracks as MP3 and then burn onto a DVD so that all she had to do was pop the DVD into the comouter and it would play for hour upon hour without her having to change CD's. I extracted 162 tracks, over 5 hours worth of music from jazz to pop faves, something for everyone.

Three quarters of the way through I realised I was extracted them as WAV files and NOT MP3!! Even though I was very tired and felt a little couped up all day, I stayed very calm. I went to my Sony software only to find out that it only extracts from CD's to conver them to MP3's and by this time I have over 100 WAV's on my hard disk.
Tried my nero software and you have to buy an upgraded version to convert.

Went to godd old Itunes, set it up to import the WAV's as MP3's and started one-by-one to import them. Then set it up to burn as MP3's, pop a CD in and then got a message saying 'cannot butn as the tracks are not in MP3 format'. Selected the file, right click and chose 'Convert to MP3'. Went to burn again and the same message came up.

I know this is probably excrutiatingly boring to read but look on it as my personal therapy to get over it all as if I had taken a minute to think it through I should of extracted through Sony to begin with.

So tonight I will be conerting all the WAV files to MP3 through Audacity and then butn through Nero. I am on a mission now to get it done.

Let's just hope the party goers enjoy it oblivious to the heartache behind it!

Matt Monro

by topofthestairs @ 08 Jul. 2006 - 15:08:11

Wedding plans taking over a little so apologies for gap in blogs!

Watched a brilliant documentary on Matt Monroe screened by BBC3. Brilliant because it featured lots of unseen home footage, concentrated soley on Monroe without deviating or comparing to modern day singers, included contributions by his family, and music heavyweights George Martin, Don Black and much to my utter delight; Mr John Barry.

Real name Terry Parsons so you can see why he changed it. Paul Gambachinni said of his voice, 'like a camera lens with no dust'. They played a fair bit of his recordings and it is an absolutely velvet and flawless voice.

Robert Elms said when discussing him ...'when voices really mattered'. Isn't that a statement and a half! Sadly voices do not seem to matter as much nowadays, it sems to be more about producers.

Whilst being a fan for some time I learnt quite a bit. He actually broke into the US and lived in LA for some time. Was loved all over Europe and had a late break in his career when he staarted to record especially for the Spanish market, singing in Spanish.

His grandson said that when he goes into music shops he puts all his grandads CD's at the front of the racks. Love it.

I have 2 CD's in my collection:
Matt Monro Sings Don Black
Matt Monro

Fave tracks:
On Days Like These
From Russia With Love
Walk Away

Blog Speed

by topofthestairs @ 02 Jul. 2006 - 15:04:55

Well, not much of entry today as I did write a sweet blog only for the Save to take so long that it lost it and I just can't be bothered in this heat to write it again!

Is it me or is this blog site getting slower and slower?
