If you read my blog you will already know I am a great Duffy fan. One of the best new, shining bright stars of last year. It's not just her style or voice but the interpretation she puts in her songs. Influenced by her parents record collection, she mixes old with new.

On the new fund raising CD War Child Hero's, current artists sing cover versions of well known tracks. Duffy covers Paul McCartney's 007 theme Live & Let Die and it is truly fab! If you didn't know it was a Bond theme then you would never know listening to this before the original. Here it is presented as a soulful, bluesey track and it works. Parred down and mostly with a single violin and a blurred guitar to back her, this is what I call 'covering a song'.

If you are going to take a song and cover it, don't just make it the same as the original, put what you are and how you sing into it - stretch it and push it and change it but still manage to keep the essence of what the original means. This is what Duffy has done in bucketloads.
